About Ji-yeon Lee
Ji-yeon Lee, Ph.D., is a Professor of Counseling and UX Psychology at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul, and Director of its Human-Centered Digital Safety Lab. As a licensed psychologist (New York, USA), she brings clinical expertise into user safety research, putting Safety by Design into practice through psychological theory. Her work includes applying trauma-informed user journeys to platform reporting systems so that seeking help protects rather than retraumatises, examining how awareness of online harms reshapes women's social media behaviour even without direct victimisation, and drawing on attachment theory to surface user safety questions in human-AI interaction. She serves on Meta's expert advisory committee on user safety, and works with UN Women as a consultant on its Digital Allies Programme, addressing technology-facilitated gender-based violence across the Asia-Pacific region.
